CONDUCT UNBECOMING and BLACK SMOKE STICKER CO.
This has less to do with training, but something that will bring you great pleasure. The way I like to describe my brothers from Conduct Unbecoming is, they are the fire service’s Robin Hood, or maybe a better description would be a protective big brother. Did someone bully you? They got your back. Really if you want to know more you need to investigate it yourself and see what they are all about…..and Trust me, you want to know more. The amount of support that black smoke sticker co does for our firefighters in need is phenomenal. They both have Instagram and together they have a podcast. Not convinced yet? just watch this intro video, you’ll instantly be hooked.

GRABS PODCAST
GRABS Podcast is fantastic for listening to on your way to work. They are nice and short and can help you get in the right mindset during your drive to the firehouse. In the GRABS podcast the host interviews firefighters that had a grab. The firefighter gives the listeners a background on their career and the ins and outs of their department. When that’s done, they take you back to the date of the grab and completely paint the picture for you. Tons of things to take away from in these, you will not be let down.

FIREFIGHTER RESCUE SURVEY
You are going to hear the firefighter rescue survey referenced constantly. If you have a grab you can and should record it here. The questionnaire is very thorough and can help us gain stats to assist in making tactical decisions.
FIREFIGHTER RESCUE SURVEY – For Them
There is also a tab on the site that highlights great podcasts that are worth your time.

BOOK OF SEARCH
In the link you will find the free PDF version, (you have to add it to the cart and then you can download it) and on that same page is the link to go purchase the hardback copy on amazon. The hardback copy costs money, however, you will see on the website that 100% of the money goes back to firefighter rescue survey.
THE BOOK OF SEARCH *NOW AVAILABLE* — Firehouse Vigilance
FIREHOUSE VIGILANCE
It would take a while to describe how much you get from firehouse vigilance, they have so much to offer. I will glance over some of it. The host, Chief Corley Moore, interviews the heavy hitters in the fire service. They talk about a wide variety of things. Prepare to be educated. So much free knowledge is shared here, but what I really take away is the passion. You can feel the love for the job from everyone in the community and I just can’t say enough about it. This is just one aspect of firehouse vigilance, but you really need to dive in if you want to know more. The list would be too long to post all of my favorites, but here is a few.
BROTHERS IN BATTLE AND FIREMANSHIP CONFERENCE
I LOVE Brothers in battle classes. They are top notch. Very solid and passionate people. Thier lead, Cody Trestrail, is also a guest on many podcasts including The Weekly Scrap, make sure you go give it a listen, you can feel the passion and it will help burn that fire inside you. Cody has a great story about how he was drawn to love the job when he saw the video “Brothers in Battle” (see Below)
They also have a conference that is called the Firemanship Conference. I can’t speak enough about how awesome it is. You have to attend. I’m registered to go again this year 2025, hope to see you there!

FDIC KEY NOTE SPEECHES
Honestly any of them are great, but LT. Ray McCormack’s “Culture of Extinguishment” is my favorite. You see sections of it in Conduct Unbecoming’s Podcast Intro Video.
My second favorite speech from FDIC is from Bobby Halton. Around minute 31, “I wouldn’t give…..” I won’t spoil it for you, but seriously, I get chills every time I listen to it.
FIRE ENGINEERING
Tons and tons you can read here, but I’m going to specifically highlight one article. (There are 3 parts to the article). This is a must if you are struggling with forcible entry. This article with help you fully understand the haligan while giving you a history lesson. (great for probie classes btw). Once you can recite everything in this article, you while find that your forcible entry skills will improve dramatically.

MIKE PERRONE AND FIRE HOUSE INNOVATIONS
Want to go further down the rabbit hole and improve your forcible entry? You can go really deep into the internet on forcing doors. Lots of good info out there. But if you ask me, Mike teaches it best. This link has a whole playlist of how to videos. They are the “older” videos. He has an Instagram page too with newer videos and he’s constantly adding new ones. I would also give that page a follow.

SFM ENGINE OPS
Did you watch all of the Kyle Romagus videos that I posted above? Obviously, any class taught by him is going to be aces. If you are in California I have to give a shameless plus to my local homies, you gotta take a class with my buddy Rick Archuleta and his awesome cadre. They are are rolling out with a new class that I’m looking forward to taking in the future. Sometimes they also pair with BIB (Brother in Battle) and with their Irons Ready class and they make a great team. SFM will also be at Firemanship Conference 2025!!! Congrats guys! Thanks for giving back to the fire service. Also give them a follow on Instagram.

FIRE NUGGETS
Fire nuggets is a great place to find classes and they also have some great podcasts as well.
FIT TO FIGHT FIRE
Fit to fight fire is awesome. You can follow them on Instagram for some great inspiration for workouts, and they have some great podcasts where people come on and give their testimony. Shameless plug again, the episode I put in the link is for the podcast is the interview of my friend and co-worker Robert Wynne. He has an awesome testimony, and I had the privilege of hearing him give it live at Firemanship Conference 2024. The Instagram link below the podcast is where you can follow Robert with Change the CDF. I will also put Robert’s interview with the weekly scrap on here.

SEARCH CULTURE
Did you watch the Justin McWilliams in the weekly scrap? Justin is one of my favorite instructors when it comes to search. He is also a part of Brothers in Battle. If you are looking to hear more from Justin, then you need to follow search culture on Instagram. Tons of great content on there and is always challenging everyone intellectually. I posted a few more links of podcasts where can hear Justin speak. Enjoy!

FIRE X TALKS
Just taking another moment to talk about Brothers in Battle again. You can see a lot of these great resources come from them in some way shape or form. If you go to Brothers in Battle website you’re going to see two tabs, podcast and fire library. If you’ve made it this far and are enjoying the rabbit hole of online training, go ahead and dive your head into those videos and podcasts as well.
PROJECT MAYDAY
This description is taken from the first line at the top of the website. – “PROJECT MAYDAY” is a comprehensive study of mayday responses, incidents and prevention.
Did you see the weekly scrap episode 275 with Bassel Ibrahim? This will help you go down that trail.
